Preview of Cow Bop’s Route 66 trip

The Monterey County (Calif.) Herald previewed Cow Bop's third cross-country trip on Route 66, which begins in Chicago on May 12. Hello from the Netherlands

Here's a musical duo called Reizende Sterren, from the Netherlands. I approve of any band that uses a stand-up bass fiddle to slap on. Nice harmonies, too.

May the wind take your troubles away

Here's a song, along with photos from the Mother Road, dedicated to all those roadies participating in the Fun Run in Arizona and the Red Carpet Corridor Festival in Illinois this weekend. Music is "Windfall by Son Volt. It comes from the "Trace" album, one of the finest country-rock releases ever.

The Random Players play a rocked-up medley of Bobby Troup's "Route 66" and Alan Jackson's "Mercury Blues" during a gig in Germany. I approve.

A taste of summer

Here's a video tribute to a Route 66 legend in St. Louis -- Ted Drewes Frozen Custard. It's the best place for frozen treats on the Mother Road, and maybe anywhere. Music is "The Sweetest Thing" by U2.

Young cats

Here are Moses and the Black Cats, a pop-rock group based on London, doing a tossed-off version of Bobby Troup's "Route 66." The lyrics are pretty mangled, but it's OK. The group's MySpace site has some good songs on it, by the way.

Thai-ing one on

Every so often, it startles me to see how far and wide that Route 66 is known throughout the planet. Here's more proof: A jazz combo from Thailand performs Bobby Troup's most famous song. Note: There's about a minute of chit-chat before the music starts.

Another Harley and Annabelle moment

Here's another new video of Harley and Annabelle Russell, aka the Mediocre Music Makers, doing their thing at their Sandhills Curiosity Shop in Erick, Okla.
