Veterans Day tribute 2011

Here is a list of military personnel from Route 66 towns who have died in Afghanistan and Iraq. I’ve also added informative links to each of the fallen, wherever possible. Although the Iraq conflict is winding down, U.S. soldiers are still fighting in Afghanistan. In fact, this was a very bad summer for Oklahoma National … Continue reading Veterans Day tribute 2011

“What is Route 66?”

Dan Rice, owner of 66-to-Cali on the Santa Monica Pier, tries to answer that question in a brief manner. https://youtu.be/idl9hN5teXA Because Route 66 boasts such a rich and multifaceted history, it's very difficult to answer that question succinctly. Longtime readers of Route 66 News know I've often cited Jim Ross' "Oklahoma Route 66" guidebook when reporting on the Mother Road's history or its obscure alignments in the Sooner State. Though that volume was published back in 2001, it remains one of the most indispensable Route 66 guides. However, getting hold of a copy … Continue reading Book review: “Oklahoma Route 66” (second edition)
