Video lobbies for Mojave Trails National Monument

A few days ago, The Wildlands Conservancy uploaded this video that advocates the creation of the Mojave Trails National Monument, which would include Route 66 from just outside Needles, California, to Barstow, California.

Save the Heart of the Mojave Desert from The Wildlands Conservancy on Vimeo.

Here is the text with the video:

Right now there is a historic opportunity to permanently protect more than one million acres of public lands in the California desert with an Antiquities Act designation.
Mojave Trails National Monument will protect some of the most unique and pristine places in the country including a 103-mile stretch of historic Route 66, Amboy Crater, the Marble Mountains fossil beds, and many more. These places hold sacred stories of the past. They are places we play in the present. And they are places that deserve protection for our future and that of generations to come.
These lands that make up the heart of the Mojave Desert need your voice.

  1. What is being destroyed that it needs to be controlled? That is my question. Spend the money and open up Mitchell Caverns again.

  2. @Krissy: A few years ago, a water company wanted to drill into the underground aquifer and take the water for the City of Los Angeles, thus endangering and probably destroying the native flora & fauna that depend on that underground water supply. Were it ever discovered that valuable minerals are buried there, the mining companies will rape, plunder and pillage the place, and then leave it destroyed, — with no remediation whatever because that cuts into their PROFIT$. That’s why the Mojave must be protected. Remember: We did NOT inherit the Earth from our fathers; we have borrowed it from our children. So please speak up, and make your legacy to descendants clean, healthy and beautiful.

    1. so with this drought that we have been in and the need for water flora and fauna comes before people…. what is wrong with this picture/
