MidPoint Cafe & Route 66 Gift Shop in Adrian put up for sale for $900,000

The famous MidPoint Cafe & Route 66 Gift Shop in Adrian, Texas, was recently put on the market, with an asking price of $900,000.

Brenda Hammit, a former cook at the Route 66 restaurant who has owned it since 2018, stated in a Facebook post that she “wants to find the right person who will carry on the tradition of welcoming travelers, making people feel at home, and keeping the spirit of the MidPoint alive for generations to come. Someone who understands that they’re not simply buying a business.”

Prospective owners should email midpointcafe@att.net or call Gary at 806-654-0273.

A confidential financial summary is available to qualified prospective buyers on request.

More from the announcement here:

Hammit bought the MidPoint from previous owner Dennis Purschwitz, who had it for about six years and enhanced its value by setting up a Midpoint of Route 66 photo-op across the street.

Purschwitz bought the restaurant from longtime owner Fran Houser, who retired after 22 years. Houser served as the inspiration to the character Flo, owner of Flo’s V8 Cafe in the 2006 Disney-Pixar film “Cars.” Houser died last year at the age of 81.

The restaurant, built along Route 66 in 1928, held several names before Houser acquired it and renamed it the MidPoint, paying tribute to the fact that it was 1,139 miles each way from Chicago and Los Angeles.

In addition to its luscious pies, the MidPoint also became known for small-town hospitality.
