The same people who run the American Giants Museum along Route 66 in Atlanta, Illinois, will soon welcome a new tourist attraction: a rare 1960s Futuro house.
For the uninitiated, fiberglass Futuro homes were designed in Finland and resemble flying saucers. Only about 100 were produced, and it’s believed that just 60 remain worldwide.
New American Giants Museum owner Lee Woods and his wife Diane recently tracked down a Futuro home in a rural area near Danvers, Illinois, and acquired it.
This video provides a sneak preview of what the Futuro looks like and the background behind these futuristic structures, originally envisioned as vacation homes.
More information from the Giants Route 66 Stop, which is across the street from the museum:
It’s expected that the newly acquired Futuro will touch down in Atlanta sometime in early November.
Plans for it remain unknown, but opening it for tours seems to be on the potential list. Maybe it can be an Airbnb site.
Another Futuro house stands at the Pink Elephant Antique Mall in Livingston, Illinois, also along Route 66.
