Public TV station profiles writer Michael Wallis

RSU Public TV, based at Rogers State University in Claremore, Oklahoma, recently completed this 25-minute profile in its “Perspective” series about author, actor and speaker Michael Wallis.

Wallis remains best-known for two things — writing the best-selling “Route 66: The Mother Road” that sparked the renaissance of the historic highway and providing the voice of the Sheriff of Radiator Springs in the 2006 Disney-Pixar animated film “Cars.”

Wallis, a St. Louis native who’s lived in Tulsa for decades, probably remains Route 66’s most consequential figure in the post-decertification era. The only person who arguably who could make the case of being as big for Route 66 in the past few decades is Angel Delgadillo.

The RSU-TV profile is very well-done. It probably will remain the best overall profile of Wallis until someone writes a full biography or shoots a documentary about his life.
