Route 66 Association of Missouri raising funds to restore Webb City Florist neon sign

The Route 66 Association of Missouri is trying to raise $5,000 by the end of September to restore the neon sign for Webb City Florist in Webb City, Missouri.

Rich Dinkela, president of the association, a few days ago posted a video about the business and the fundraiser:

Dinkela talked to the previous owner about six years ago. She estimated at the time the sign was about 70 years old.

Webb City Florist is on the Jefferson Street alignment of Route 66, which was City 66 until 1972.

The owner is convinced if the sign is restored and relit, it will help improve her business.

That is not an unreasonable expectation. I recall a barbershop in the Crystal City Shopping Center in west Tulsa. The owner told me after he installed a simple “BARBER” neon sign in his window, business tripled for weeks afterward.

  1. That 76-year old neon sign is so cute. I’m glad there’s a 2-week fundraiser just started on Custom Ink in July 28th 2023!
