The Route 66 Golf Trail, The World’s Longest Golf Trail, was unveiled during a news conference Thursday at LaFortune Park Golf Course in Tulsa.
This tourism initiative pairs the appeal of golf with the legendary journey of America’s Main Street, inviting travelers from around the world to tee off at distinctive, designated courses along the Mother Road corridor.
The Trail is a golf and tourism initiative that connects 66 golf sites across eight states and 2,448 miles from Chicago to Santa Monica, uniting golf, history and travel into a single continuous journey that celebrates America’s outdoor activities and helps people embrace the spirit of adventure while stimulating regional tourism and economic growth.
A perusal of the Route 66 Golf Trail website shows that dozens of courses are participating. One could play one course per day and still be busy almost two months later.
“It is an honor to partner with Tulsa County in launching this permanent golf trail, celebrating the Centennial of Route 66 in 2026,” said Gary Sparks, founder of the Route 66 Golf Trail.
”Playing these designated courses, as a bucket-list golf road trip, will create lasting memories for millions of golfers as they travel this iconic highway.”
With the centennial celebration of Route 66 underway, the Route 66 Golf Trail, The World’s Longest Golf Trail, is an officially designated U.S. Route 66 Centennial Commission project.
“Tulsa County is delighted to host the launch of this exciting golf trail,” said Tulsa County Commissioner Kelly Dunkerley. “LaFortune Park Golf Course is one of the premier courses in the region, and the Route 66 Golf Trail is a great way to celebrate Route 66 and the great game of golf.”
“America has been described by its spacious skies and amber waves of grain…but what is America? Route 66 is America,” said country-music star Garth Brooks, a native of the Route 66 town of Yukon, Oklahoma. “The backbone running through the heart and soul of this nation. The home of underdogs and heroes, dreamers and doers, the yellow brick road to the American Dream.”
“Route 66 has always been about discovery, about open horizons and community connection, “said Bill Thomas, chairman of the Route 66 Road Ahead Partnership and Commissioner for the U.S. Route 66 Centennial Commission.
“By officially designating the Route 66 Golf Trail, we’re creating a fresh-faced way to celebrate the road’s Centennial-not just by driving it, but by playing it. From tee-to-green to motels and diners, this project brings the spirit of Route 66 into new fairways and new communities.”
Participating golf courses and communities along the Route 66 corridor are encouraged to coordinate with Daniel Rainey, the project’s administrator.
