This should be done by all media sources on a regular basis. Lest we forget.
I attended a Marine Corps birthday celebration in Fox Lake on Nov. 10th, and everyone got a chance to speak after breakfast of scrambled eggs, SOS, and really heavy-duty coffee.
One was at Pearl Harbor and a past commander of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association.
Another a member of Carlson’s Raiders.
One Marine at Sugar Loaf on Okinawa during WW II said their Rules of Engagement were, “If it moves, shoot it.”
Another Marine only wanted to say, “Thank you Harry!” He was at Camp Pendleton and preparing for the invasion of Japan when President Truman ordered the atomic bombs dropped.
Thank you vets for giving us the freedom we enjoy today.
Good story, RoadDog.
My grade-school principal was a funny, sawed-off guy. It turns out he was a Marine at the battle of Iwo Jima. I didn’t know until he died a few years ago. Not that it would have made any difference, anyway — his son said he NEVER talked about his experiences at that Japanese island.
