Brewery’s Blue Whale Lemon Wheat Ale helps maintain Blue Whale site in Catoosa

Cabin Boys Brewery in Tulsa recently created a Blue Whale Lemon Wheat Ale, where its sales will help the landmark Blue Whale and its new visitors center in nearby Catoosa, Oklahoma.

According to TulsaPeople magazine, the brewery and the City of Catoosa collaborated on the beer.

“It’s a natural fit,” says Cabin Boys co-owner and Master Brewer Austin McIlroy. “The cabin my dad and I built — the one our brewery is named after — is only about a mile from (the whale). Our company’s story really began in Catoosa.”

McIlroy says his family initially sought to open their brewery in Catoosa before launching their Tulsa brewing operation.

“When the city reached out about creating a Blue Whale beer, it was an easy ‘yes,’” McIlroy says.

The collaboration is in part a fundraiser for the attraction, with 1% of proceeds from every Blue Whale beer sold dedicated to helping maintain the Blue Whale and its surrounding amenities. The beer is available on draft at Cabin Boys’ downtown and Pearl District locations, as well as in four-packs at eight local Reasor’s. You can also find it at several area bars, restaurants and liquor stores. It will eventually be sold at the whale, too.

Blue Whale Lemon Wheat Ale is 5.5% alcohol, which is typical for easy-drinking beers.

TulsaPeople also said the brewery may be developing a Blue Whale-themed craft soda as well.
