The historic Gold Dome in Oklahoma City faces an uncertain future after another party unexpectedly bought the property during a sheriff’s auction.
The sale occurred the same day the city council approved $3 million in tax incentives for another developer who wanted to turn it into a music venue.
The Journal-Record has a good summary on the tangled saga:
Chickasaw Community Bank filed in November 2025 to foreclose on a mortgage with $1,163,195 owed. The previous owner, Mike Brown, wanted to turn it into a live music venue, but records show he wasn’t paying the mortgage. The minimum auction bid started at $600,000 against a $900,000 appraisal, as reported by The Oklahoman. The new owner, Caleb Hill, is part of commercial real estate firm Precor Realty Advisors and has not responded to requests for comment on his plans for the dome.

The sheriff’s sale does not immediately transfer ownership of the Gold Dome.
“Just because the sheriff’s sale has occurred, title has not transferred,” real estate attorney Billy Lewis said.
The creditor must file a motion asking a judge to confirm the sale. Lewis said that process could take 40 to 45 days.
During that 40- to 45-day period, the original owner has the legal right to redeem the property by paying off the debt.
And what if the new owner keeps the property after all the court proceedings?
If a judge confirms the sale and the winning bidder takes ownership, the city’s $3 million agreement with Brown would no longer apply. The new owner would have to approach the city with a separate redevelopment proposal.
“Unfortunately, for all the people that want to see the Gold Dome resurrected and see it developed, this is just a massive setback,” Lewis said.
It doesn’t seem likely, however, that the Gold Dome will be demolished. The city learned its lesson a few decades ago when local outcry scuttled the demolition before it happened.
The Gold Dome was built as a Citizens State Bank in 1958 as the fifth geodesic dome in the world.
It was designated to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.
The Gold Dome sits at Northwest 23rd Street and North Classen Boulevard, both sections of Route 66.
