Scottsdale Mint will produce silver mini-postcards as part of a Route 66 centennial collection

To commemorate Route 66’s centennial, Scottsdale Mint will produce limited-edition silver mini-postcards.

Each mini-postcard will measure 2.5 by 3.5 inches and showcase landmarks from Chicago to Santa Monica, California.

Scottsdale Mint will make just 100 of each design and produce a single master set including all the postcards in a premium collector’s box. The mini-postcards will be available exclusively on the Scottsdale Mint website. The estimated cost will be $75 to $100 each, depending on the market price of silver.

“We’d like to offer the Route 66 community a week of early access to the mini-postcards,” stated Christa Bell of Scottsdale Mint. “Scottsdale Mint will add links to sell the mini-postcards to its website the first week in November.”

The front of each postcard features:

  • Chicago: A classic car gets the road trip started in the foreground of a warmly lit vintage Chicago cityscape.
  • Missouri: A classic car cruises across past a barn advertising Meramec Caverns outside of Stanton.
  • Kansas: A vintage truck travels over the Rainbow Bridge in a design that celebrates “The Quiet 13 Miles” of Route 66 through Kansas.
  • Oklahoma: The Blue Whale of Catoosa grins at a family enjoying this landmark.
  • Texas: A green convertible makes a pit stop at an historic neon-lit gas station and cafe.
  • New Mexico: A car crests the Continental Divide, the highest point of Route 66.
  • Arizona: Warm light bathes the legendary teepees at the Wigwam Motel in Holbrook.
  • California: A classic station wagon with a surfboard pauses at the ocean as the sun sets over the Santa Monica Pier.

The back of the mini-postcards depicts a two-lane road in a desert landscape with the Route 66 shield, throwback text celebrating the centennial of Route 66 and copy noting that the card is 0.5 troy ounce of .999 silver.

Scottsdale Mint has also introduced gold bars and silver Stackers in honor of the Route 66 centennial.

Each gold bar is 1/100th of a Troy ounce stamped with the Route 66 shield and enclosed in Certi-Lock packaging, a secure blister pack designed that will show whether anyone has tried to tamper with it.

The QR code and app would allow the buyer to authenticate their purchase using serial numbers and a photo of the bar immediately after it is minted.

The mint’s 1- and 2-Troy ounce silver Stackers are rounds featuring the Route 66 shield on a three-dimensional checkered flag, an homage to the road’s ties to racing. The flag creates an interlocking stack for secure, compact storage.

The gold bars and silver Stackers are unlimited mintage and available through the Scottsdale Mint website, its eBay store and authorized wholesalers. The bars and rounds are crafted to order, so customers should allow up to four weeks for delivery.
