Tacos Uranus opening at Uranus Missouri complex on Nov. 11

The Tacos Uranus restaurant will open at the Uranus Missouri complex in St. Robert, Missouri, on Nov. 11 — the centennial date when U.S. 66 was federally certified.

Louie Keen, owner and self-proclaimed mayor of Uranus Missouri, stated in an email that Tacos Uranus will be across from the famous Uranus Fudge Factory and General Store.

He said the eatery would feature “Hillbilly” smoked meats. The slogan uses the complex’s typical juvenile humor: “Hard or soft … Uranus tastes great!”

Tacos Uranus will have 20 seats for indoor dining, plus a drive-through window and fireplaces for outdoor eating. Hours will be from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Among his plans for the restaurant is a 56-foot-tall windmill that will have “Tacos” and “Uranus” in neon letters on its sides. Keen said he hoped to have that operational by Nov. 11, but wasn’t sure.

Uranus Missouri also has an ice cream shop, sideshow museum, playground and Putt Pirates miniature golf.

Keen opened Uranus Missouri in 2015 and opened a second general store and fudge factory in Indiana a few years later.

He said in an interview he was influenced by kitschy roadside attractions and tourist traps when he envisioned his complex.
