Disney buys Pixar

As expected, Disney announced a buyout of Pixar Animation Studios today. You can read about the merger here. The deal shouldn't affect the rollout of Pixar's Route 66-themed movie, "Cars," in June -- except for heightening expectations. As ABC News reports, movie houses are counting on "Cars" to salvage a lackluster year in ticket sales.

Pixar-Disney merger by next week?

Reuters is reporting that Disney bosses are meeting to decide Sunday or Monday whether to buy Pixar Animation Studios, the maker of the upcoming Route 66 movie "Cars."

Spy photos from “Cars”

Now this is funny. I don't know whether these photos featured Friday on ComingSoon.net are legitimately from Pixar Animation Studios to add buzz for its upcoming Route 66-themed movie, "Cars," or from someone who's good with PhotoShop. I'd say the former seems likely. Either way, the "photos" serve as a clever parody of car magazines … Continue reading Spy photos from “Cars”

Turning Muslim in Texas

I'd heard for several months about a British documentary about Texans who converted to Islam, including man who lives on Route 66. I finally saw the documentary today. That includes the centerpiece -- Dennis Hopper's Route 66 photograph titled "Double Standard," shown above (hat tip to Art Collections for Educators). Hopper, as … Continue reading Route 66 artwork holds exhibit’s center stage

Pixar’s “Cars” postcard

I acquired this really cool thing from Michael Wallis last week -- a postcard from the fictional Route 66 town of Radiator Springs in the upcoming "Cars" movie by Pixar Animation Studios. As you can see, it recalls a common postcard style from the 1940s and '50s, with local attractions shown in each letter. Wallis, … Continue reading Pixar’s “Cars” postcard
