Steve Vaught, the obese walker who’s telling his Route 66 adventures on thefatmanwalking.com, apparently has fixed his computer and has update his Web site. He checked into an ill-maintained motel in Springfield, Mo. But the most notable thing was the berating from a desk clerk that was so outrageous, it was comical. UPDATE: The same journal page has an update for the Dec. 12 entry. Many Springfield residents have called Steve to apologize for the woman’s behavior. Steve’s not letting it bother him because he has the correct outlook:
I feel bad for this woman and now understand the incident a lot more. It’s not me she was berating, instead it was what I represent and what she feels she will never have; the ability to change the direction of an unhappy life.
Bravo to the Best Western next door. Apparently this desk clerk forgot that the operative word in the phrase “hospitality industry” is, um, *hospitality*.
