Bob’s Gasoline Alley collection near Cuba will go up for auction in mid-July

The collection of memorabilia at Bob’s Gasoline Alley near Cuba, Missouri, will be auctioned July 15 after the proprietor died earlier this spring.

Aumann Auctions of Nokomis, Illinois, is conducting the event at the Bob’s Gasoline Alley site at 822 Beamer Lane west of Cuba, sandwiched between old Route 66 and Interstate 44.

The date of the auction could be changed because of coronavirus pandemic restrictions.

There also will be online bidding during the auction. More details and a catalog of items will be revealed at a later date.

Longtime readers may remember Aumann Auctions selling the Sonrise Donuts sign and the Original Dew Chilli parlor, both in Springfield, Illinois. The city of Springfield eventually bought the Sonrise sign and restored it for a future Route 66 collection.

Bob Mullen, who parlayed his massive collection of gas-station and other old-time memorabilia into Bob’s Gasoline Alley, died suddenly at his home March 1. He was 67.

He had been collecting old-time signs and gasoline items for decades. Bob’s Gasoline Alley also served meals to tour groups by appointment.
