Decades of Wheels in Baxter Springs is for sale for $5 million

The Decades of Wheels complex in downtown Baxter Springs, Kansas, has been placed on the market with a Wichita real-estate firm for $5 million, barely two years after it opened.

A local media outlet, the Spring River Current, helped break the story last month.

“The hotel will remain open until sold but the rest of it will remain closed,” a Facebook post stated.

According to a sticker placed on the complex’s door, the property is being listed by PenFed Realty, a Berkshire Hathaway affiliate in Wichita. The company also is listed under WichitaListings.com.

Reporter Dustin Andrews of the Spring River Current stated in a text message he verified the real-estate company has listed the property for $5 million.

Dave Brown, an agent for PedFed in Wichita, confirmed to Route 66 News by phone Wednesday that his firm was listing the Decade of Wheels property but it wasn’t online yet.

Brown said he was instructed by the owner to not talk to the media. He then hung up.

An email to Decades of Wheels requesting comment was not answered.

The Decades of Wheels museum held its grand opening in June 2019. The complex also includes the Little Brick Inn B&B, Spinout Arcade and the classic-car museum.

According to previous reporting, the Decades of Wheels owner, oil-company heir Geri Williams of nearby Miami, Oklahoma, traveled through Baxter Springs years ago during a Route 66 trip and “fell in love” with the city’s downtown. Williams eventually bought a half-block of Baxter Springs along Route 66, with the goal of making it into a “destination” complex.

  1. Seems like $5m ought to cover the whole town of Baxter Springs, not just one business.
