New documentary tells about an early champion of Muffler Men

Joel Baker, a Muffler Man enthusiast and preservationist, recently completed a 30-minute documentary film about the late Glenn Good, a Texan who spent decades repairing or salvaging the fiberglass giants back in the days when they weren’t popular.

One of Good’s projects still stands at the Cadillac Ranch RV Park on Amarillo’s west side, right along the Route 66 corridor.

About 15 years ago, Roadside America published a story about Good, as well.

More than a dozen Muffler Men still exist along Route 66, as the Route 66 Times ably details. That number actually has grown in recent years because of business owners commissioning new Muffler Men from scratch.

Good’s five giants have been put up for sale. More information in the video:

  1. Great story! Having lived in and traveled around north Texas as a child I remember seeing these statues!
