Updated fifth edition of “EZ 66 Guide for Travelers” published

Jerry McClanahan, author of the “EZ 66 Guide for Travelers,” announced last week an updated fifth edition of the guidebook has been published.

The guide, which contains turn-by-turn directions on how to navigate Route 66 both eastbound and westbound, is published by the National Historic Route 66 Federation.

McClanahan said in a Facebook post the new guide contains 14 additional pages for maps and stamps. Side trips and options were reworked to make them easier to follow, especially in cities.

He said he traveled both directions of Route 66 to verify things and revise the guidebook, including last-minute changes due to the recent reopening of portions of the road in the Mojave Desert.

As usual, the book will contain recommendations for classic motels, restaurants, museums and other attractions.

You can read more from the Facebook post below:

The books can be ordered here directly from the federation.

McClanahan said he also would compile a list on his website of Route 66 businesses that will carry the book.

The same website also will include ongoing updates on the highway that were too late to meet print deadlines.

  1. IMO, this is the best book out there for navigating the road. I recommend it to anyone who is looking at doing a roadtrip on 66.
