Grants restaurant opens; another changes hands

Both stories about Grants, N.M., eateries are from the Cibola County Beacon.

The Grants Cafe, a dining fixture along Route 66 since the 1940s, has changed ownership. Steve and Lillian Vigil have retired after 30 years. Mike and Linda Bistline have moved from California to take over.

The Beacon reports:

According to the Bistline couple, they plan to keep the interior of the restaurant the same, with a few new additions of memorabilia. The menu will also stay the same until the need arises for changes, they say.

New services, which will be added, are catering and delivery.

And, best of all, weekday hours will remain the same but the cafe will now be open on weekends from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

And a local chili cookoff winner has opened her own restaurant — Chili Kicks on Route 66. Owner Millie Chavez has been a three-time winner of the Chili Fiesta, reports the Beacon.

Millie has also won first place in green chili and salsa categories at the annual Chili Fiesta in Grants, and first place at the Sky City Salsa and Chili Championships.

Chavez’ restaurant is open Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. until 8 p.m., and closed on Sundays.
