The mayor of Wilmington, Illinois, announced that the city council approved new logos that will include the addition of retro-styled, neon monument signs.
“In the coming months our entrance signs to Wilmington will also be replaced with a massive upgrade,” Mayor Ben Dietz wrote in a Facebook post.
“Friends, tourists, and residents will be welcomed to Wilmington with new monument signs. At night these signs will be extra inviting with the warm glow of neon!”
Dietz also showed artist’s renderings of the forthcoming signs:
The monument includes a reference to the Gemini Giant, which Dietz was instrumental in moving the endangered fiberglass giant from the closed Launching Pad Drive-In restaurant to a new site at a park in Wilmington.
